ইংরেজি ভাষায় সঠিক বাক্য রচনার জন্য Subject এবং Verb-এর মধ্যে মিল (Agreement) থাকা অত্যন্ত জরুরি।

👉 এটাকেই বলা হয় Subject-Verb Agreement।

Competitive Exams (WBCS, SSC, Banking, Railway, UPSC, TET ইত্যাদি)-এ Grammar অংশ থেকে নিয়মিত এ বিষয়ে প্রশ্ন আসে।

🔹 Basic Rules of Subject-Verb Agreement

1. Singular Subject → Singular Verb

📌 Example: He plays football.

2. Plural Subject → Plural Verb

📌 Example: They play football.

3. Two Subjects joined by and → Plural Verb

📌 Example: Ram and Shyam are friends.

👉 Exception: যখন দুটি বিষয় একসাথে একটি ধারণা প্রকাশ করে → Singular Verb।

📌 Example: Bread and butter is my favorite breakfast.

4. Two Subjects joined by or/nor → Verb agrees with the nearest subject

📌 Example: Either Rahul or his friends are going.

📌 Example: Either his friends or Rahul is going.

5. Indefinite Pronouns

Each, Every, Anyone, Someone, Everybody, Nobody → Singular Verb।

📌 Example: Each student is present.

Few, Many, Several, Both → Plural Verb।

📌 Example: Both boys were late.

6. Collective Noun

Whole group একসাথে বোঝালে → Singular Verb।

📌 Example: The team is playing well.

আলাদা সদস্য বোঝালে → Plural Verb।

📌 Example: The team are fighting among themselves.

7. Amount, Distance, Time, Money → Singular Verb

📌 Example: Ten miles is a long distance.

📌 Example: Fifty rupees is enough.

8. Titles of Books, Movies, Subjects → Singular Verb

📌 Example: The Three Musketeers is an interesting book.

9. None, All, Some → Context অনুযায়ী Singular বা Plural

📌 Example: None of the water is wasted.

📌 Example: None of the students are absent.

10. With, As well as, Along with ইত্যাদি দিয়ে Subject হলে → প্রথম Subject অনুযায়ী Verb হবে।

📌 Example: The teacher, along with the students, is going.

❌ He don’t like tea.

✅ He doesn’t like tea.

❌ One of the boys have won the prize.

✅ One of the boys has won the prize.

❌ Mathematics are a tough subject.

✅ Mathematics is a tough subject.
